Kyle Larson’s Indianapolis 500 Campaign Ends in Early Collision
Kyle Larson’s ambitious attempt to simultaneously compete in both the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 faced setbacks once again, as he was involved in a multi-car incident during the Indy 500 for the second consecutive year.
At the 91-lap restart, Larson’s No. 17 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet lost traction entering Turn 2, leading to a spin that collected Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kyffin Simpson and Juncos Hollinger Racing’s Sting Ray Robb. Larson’s car initially rotated low before veering up the track, where it struck Simpson, ultimately resulting in a collision with the wall.
This year marked a continuation of misfortune for Larson. In 2024, he completed all 200 laps at Indianapolis but was unable to participate in the Charlotte race due to a lengthy rain delay. Now, in 2025, it was the Indy 500 lap count that proved elusive.
“It’s a bit crazy there on the start,” Larson remarked after the incident. “I got tight behind Takuma [Sato] as I closed in. Then I got loose and just kind of all over the place, so I spun. Hate that for everybody that got caught up in it. Just bummed out. I’ll try to get over this quickly and get on to Charlotte.”
Fortunately, all drivers involved, including Larson, Simpson, and Robb, emerged unscathed from the crash.
