XPEL Grand Prix: Palou Triumphs in Scorching Road America Conditions

Road America, Wisconsin – In temperatures reaching 96 degrees Fahrenheit and peak track temperatures of 131 degrees, Alex Palou secured a decisive victory at the XPEL Grand Prix, marking his sixth win of 2025 and extending Honda’s winning streak to ten races.

Palou, piloting the No. 10 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda, outpaced Felix Rosenqvist of Meyer Shank Racing by 2.1 seconds, while Santino Ferrucci of AJ Foyt Racing rounded out the podium in third. “It was a crazy race for us,” stated Palou. “Kudos to the team for the amazing strategy and Honda for providing us the necessary fuel mileage at the end.”

The race showcased a dramatic shift in championship standings, with Palou enhancing his lead from 73 to 93 points over Kyle Kirkwood, who finished fourth. Marcus Armstrong finished fifth, with Kyffin Simpson in sixth, contributing to a strong showing by Ganassi-affiliated drivers.

David Malukas engineered an impressive recovery from last place after a first-lap spin, securing seventh through strategic pit decisions. In contrast, Scott Dixon faced fuel logistics challenges, finishing ninth after a late pit stop left him needing an additional splash to reach the finish.

Cautions played a critical role in race strategy, with several drivers—about one-third of the field—unable to complete the cooldown lap due to fuel conservation needs.

Race Summary:

  • Starting from pole, Louis Foster lost grip early, ultimately finishing 11th.
  • Cautions were triggered by incidents, including a crash involving Malukas and a subsequent incident with Robert Shwartzman.
  • Strategic pit stops throughout the race saw significant position changes, particularly with alternating tire strategies.

Final Standings:

  1. Alex Palou (Chip Ganassi Racing)
  2. Felix Rosenqvist (Meyer Shank Racing)
  3. Santino Ferrucci (AJ Foyt Racing)
  4. Kyle Kirkwood (Andretti Autosport)
  5. Marcus Armstrong (Meyer Shank Racing)
  6. Kyffin Simpson (Chip Ganassi Racing)

Palou’s mastery of pace and fuel management underlined his talent and solidified his championship lead as the series progresses.
