Will Power Exits Team Penske After Historic 17-Year Tenure

Will Power’s tenure with Team Penske officially concludes, marking the end of one of the most successful partnerships in IndyCar history. Power, 44, is anticipated to be replaced by David Malukas, who was signed by Penske in late 2024 and is currently developing with AJ Foyt Racing.

Power’s career at Penske spanned 17 seasons, during which he secured 42 wins out of 45 races and set a record with 65 pole positions. He delivered two IndyCar championships in 2014 and 2022, as well as a victory at the prestigious Indianapolis 500 in 2018.

“It’s been the honor of my life to drive for Roger and the Penske organization,” Power stated. “After much consideration, I felt like a change for me was the right move at this time.” His record of 108 podium finishes, with 102 coming in Penske machinery, underscores his dominance in the series.

Roger Penske highlighted the mutual decision, saying, “Will felt that it was time for him to make a change beginning with next season. He has been an outstanding driver and teammate for our organization.”

Power initially joined the Penske team in 2009 as a temporary substitute for Helio Castroneves, impressing the team with a sixth-place finish at St. Petersburg. He swiftly established himself, going on to capture five wins in 2010 during his first full season, followed by another strong performance in 2011 with six victories.

His contribution to Penske’s success is unmatched, with 13 top-five finishes—second only to Helio Castroneves. Power is now expected to transition to Andretti Global, potentially filling Colton Herta’s seat, although that move remains unconfirmed.
