Team Penske Confirms David Malukas as New Driver for No. 12 Chevrolet
Team Penske has officially announced the signing of 23-year-old David Malukas to drive the No. 12 Chevrolet, succeeding longtime driver Will Power. Power, who piloted the car from 2009 to 2025, has moved to Andretti Global to take over the No. 26 Honda previously driven by Colton Herta.
Malukas joins a strong lineup that includes Josef Newgarden, a two-time champion with 34 victories, and Scott McLaughlin, a three-time champion with seven race wins since his transition from Supercars in 2020.
“I am honored to race for Team Penske,” Malukas stated. “Will Power is a legend, and the No. 12 Verizon Chevrolet is one of the most-recognized cars on the grid. These are big shoes to fill, but I see this as an opportunity with one of the best teams in the paddock.”
His appointment comes after a notable season in 2025, where he finished second at the Indy 500 and 11th in the championship while driving for a Penske-engineered AJ Foyt Racing entry, placing him just behind teammates Newgarden and McLaughlin in the standings.
In his first two seasons with Dale Coyne Racing, 2022-2023, along with a partial season at Meyer Shank Racing in 2024, Malukas has shown considerable potential, achieving three podium finishes from 61 starts. His transition to Team Penske positions him to secure his first pole positions and race wins.
Roger Penske, team owner, expressed confidence in Malukas’s potential. “We are excited to add David as the next driver of the No. 12 Verizon Chevrolet. We believe Team Penske will provide everything he needs to elevate his career and uphold the legacy of the Verizon Chevrolet.”
As Malukas steps into this prestigious role, the motorsports community awaits his performance in the upcoming season.
