Team Penske to Utilize Modified Crew Structure at Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix
Team Penske will field its three entries in this weekend’s Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix with the same temporary crew configurations that were deployed during the Indianapolis 500. The decision arose from the tight turnaround between events and the expertise of personnel familiar with the street circuit.
According to a team representative, the short timetable necessitated retaining the current configurations for the Nos. 2, 3, and 12 Chevrolet entries, taking advantage of team members from the Porsche Penske Motorsport IMSA GTP program. The driver-engineer-strategist combinations for the weekend are as follows:
- No. 2 car, Josef Newgarden: Raul Prados (Race Engineer) / Luke Mason (Race Strategist)
- No. 3 car, Scott McLaughlin: Malcolm Finch (Race Engineer) / Ben Bretzman (Race Strategist)
- No. 12 car, Will Power: David Faustino (Race Engineer) / Jonathan Diuguid (Race Strategist)
On Friday and Saturday, Team Penske’s regular IndyCar race engineers—Mason, Bretzman, and Faustino—will fulfill their roles before switching to race strategist duties for the main event on Sunday. This transition allows IMSA counterparts Prados and Diuguid to step in following their Saturday race commitments.
In related news, Team Penske has not yet appointed full-time replacements for the recently dismissed trio of former team president Tim Cindric, former managing director Ron Ruzewski, and former team manager Kyle Moyer, signaling a period of restructuring within the team’s leadership.
