James Roe Advances Toward IndyCar Aspirations with Test at Juncos Hollinger Racing
INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Irish driver James Roe took a significant step toward an IndyCar Series opportunity by testing an IndyCar with Juncos Hollinger Racing earlier this week at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s road course. This marks the culmination of his third season in the Indy NXT series with Andretti Global.
Roe’s best lap during the test was recorded at 1m 11.600s, closely competitive with Indy NXT peer Lochie Hughes, who clocked a 1m 11.354s. Mick Schumacher, testing for Rahal Letterman Lanigan, led among first-time IndyCar runners with a time of 1m 10.980s.
Reflecting on the test, Roe stated, “Awesome day, just great to get in it and feel it out,” adding that he experienced extensive setup changes and felt positively about the results. Roe’s performance impressed Juncos Hollinger Racing founder Ricardo Juncos, who remarked on Roe’s professionalism and quick adaptation to the car. “Compared to other drivers running under the same conditions, James was immediately on pace within his first two outings,” Juncos noted.
The recent testing session aimed to address the team’s road course performance deficits ahead of the 2025 season. Juncos praised Roe’s technical feedback, indicating strong potential for a future in IndyCar if he aligns with a well-supported program.
As opportunities in the current driver market are limited, Roe expressed his eagerness to secure a seat, saying, “Honestly, I’ll take whatever I can get right now… I’d take an Indy 500-only program, a road course-only program, a full season if I could. Today was about getting out and seeing where we’re at, and I think it’s looking pretty promising if the right seat opens.”
Roe’s trajectory in IndyCar will depend on available opportunities as the series gears up toward its competitive future.
