Toronto Street Circuit Upgraded Ahead of Honda Indy

In a proactive move ahead of the Honda Indy Toronto, city officials undertook overnight asphalt work on the braking zone at Turn 3, a critical passing area on the track. This decision followed concerns raised by drivers regarding a newly formed bump that had developed over the winter, impacting vehicle stability during braking from speeds exceeding 180 mph.

Andretti Global’s Kyle Kirkwood led Friday’s practice session, but the focus quickly shifted to safety issues, notably Turn 3’s braking zone. Team Penske’s Will Power, who finished fifth during the session in his No. 12 Chevrolet, emphasized the necessity of the asphalt repair. “They should grind it. Massive new bump at the end of the straight into [Turn] 3. Right in the braking zone, boom,” Power explained, highlighting the potential for compromised racing dynamics.

The quick response from local officials reflects the ongoing commitment to driver safety and competitive integrity, ensuring that the iconic street circuit meets the demands of high-speed racing.
