Chip Ganassi Racing’s Barry Wanser and Russ Thompson Awarded Robin Miller Honor

Indianapolis, IN – Chip Ganassi Racing team manager Barry Wanser and broadcast statistician Russ Thompson have been honored as the joint recipients of this year’s Robin Miller Award, recognizing their significant contributions to the IndyCar series.

The Robin Miller Award is bestowed annually to individuals who have displayed exceptional dedication to the sport, honoring the late Robin Miller, an influential IndyCar journalist. Established upon the suggestion of Marshall Pruett, this accolade acknowledges those who enrich the motorsports community through passion and hard work.

Previous recipients include Miller himself (2019), Bob Jenkins (2021), Judy Dominick, T.E. McHale (2022), Ziggy Harkus (2023), and Anne Fornoro (2024).

Mark Miles, CEO of the IndyCar Series and Penske Entertainment, opened the ceremony with reflections on Miller’s legacy. "This day allows us to think about Robin. Wherever he is, I envision his thoughts on the sport," Miles stated.

Wanser expressed gratitude and surprise at receiving the award, stating, "This is a true honor. Robin was a close friend, and I feel privileged to represent him. I prefer to remain behind the scenes, but I appreciate this recognition."

Diane Miller, Robin’s sister, also attended, emphasizing the award’s significance to the Miller family. "This tribute means everything to us. Robin is always present in spirit, and it is a joy to see deserving individuals honored in his memory," she remarked, recalling Robin’s early days in motorsports.

Both Wanser and Thompson’s contributions exemplify the spirit of dedication that the Robin Miller Award celebrates, ensuring that the legacy of the sport’s stalwarts continues to inspire future generations.
