Alex Palou Poised for Historic Season in IndyCar

Des Moines, IA – Alex Palou of Chip Ganassi Racing is on the brink of a historic 2025 IndyCar season, having already secured victories in both the Indianapolis 500 and most recently, at Iowa Speedway. With seven wins in just 12 races, Palou has joined an elite group of drivers who have achieved this feat in a single season.

Palou’s latest triumph at Iowa places him just three wins short of the record of ten, set by AJ Foyt in 1964 and matched by Al Unser in 1970. “It would have been a little bit closer without my excursion in Mid-Ohio,” Palou remarked, acknowledging past challenges but maintaining a focus on the upcoming races.

Despite his impressive performance, Palou remains grounded, stating, “No win comes easy… I think it’s a pretty unrealistic goal” when discussing potential milestones. Currently, he leads the championship by 129 points over Pato O’Ward.

Looking forward, Palou’s statistics provide optimism. He has consistently performed well at upcoming venues, including Laguna Seca—where he has two wins and a podium finish in every appearance—and Portland, where he has also tasted victory twice. He will compete at the Toronto street circuit this weekend, where he has yet to secure a victory but boasts three top-six finishes, including a second-place finish in 2023.

As the season progresses, Palou’s confidence is bolstered by recent oval wins, potentially positioning him favorably for the Milwaukee and Nashville races, where he aims to improve upon past performances.

Palou’s focus will remain on one race at a time, but he could very well enter the conversation for the greatest single-season performance in IndyCar history if he continues this trajectory through the end of the championship.
