2023 Southwick MX National Report
At the Southwick MX National, Justin Cooper of Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing showcased his resilience amidst challenging starts, finishing with a consistent 6-5 for fourth overall. Typically known for his explosive starts, Cooper’s inability to secure them this time required him to battle through the pack in both motos, demonstrating his competitive spirit.
Tom Vialle, who is still seeking his first moto win this summer, showed promising form in Southwick. Despite a less than ideal start in the first moto, Vialle executed a remarkable comeback, marking what was arguably his best performance this season. If he can replicate this speed and secure better starts at RedBud, he could be a strong contender for his first national victory since Ironman last year.
Michael Mosiman made a notable return to form at Southwick, ending his day with a 4-5 for fourth overall, despite encountering bike issues in the latter stages of the second moto. Having struggled with inconsistency in the past and recently recovering from a stomach bug, his performance signals a potential turning point in his campaign. Mosiman currently shares seventh place in standings with Mikkel Haarup and Ty Masterpool, who will be absent from the upcoming RedBud event, paving the way for a decisive contest for the position.
As the series progresses to RedBud, the stakes continue to rise.
