RedBud Roundup: Deegan Faces Setbacks, Tomac Struggles, Cairoli’s New Challenge
RedBud, Michigan – Haiden Deegan experienced a challenging day at RedBud, finishing fifth overall after a series of setbacks. Despite a dominant performance in previous rounds, Deegan, hampered by soreness from a qualifying crash, a poor start in the first moto, and mechanical issues, still retains a 38-point lead over Jo Shimoda. Heading into the Spring Creek event, Deegan is expected to bounce back as he seeks to reaffirm his status at the front of the pack.
In a similarly frustrating outing, Eli Tomac faced mechanical failures and poor starts. After a mid-race DNF in the first moto, Tomac rallied to finish seventh in the second moto, landing him thirteenth overall. This drop has significant implications, as he now trails points leader Jett Lawrence by 73 points and sits fourth in the standings. Tomac will be looking to regain his form in the upcoming round.
Antonio Cairoli made his U.S. debut with Ducati’s new Desmo450 at RedBud. Cairoli showcased potential with a ninth-place finish in the first moto and managed to run as high as fourth in the second, before encountering mechanical issues that forced him to retire. The seasoned competitor will aim for a stronger performance at Spring Creek.
Chase Sexton’s return gave fans mixed reviews. After a slow start in the first moto, Sexton dramatically improved in the second, showcasing the speed that earned him the title last season. Observers are keen to see if this momentum can carry him through at Spring Creek.
As teams prepare for the next round, the competition remains fierce, with multiple riders poised to shift the dynamics of the championship.
