Ironman MXoN Report: Key Results and Insights
Ironman, USA — Honda HRC Progressive’s Jo Shimoda made a notable debut in the 450 class at the Ironman Motocross event, securing a commendable second overall with a 2-6 finish in his motos. Despite expressing fatigue from the larger bike, Shimoda’s performance confirmed his potential transition to the 450 category. His efforts contributed to Japan’s 11th overall finish, their best result in the Motocross of Nations since 2007.
Swedish rider Isak Gifting also made an impact, finishing sixth overall in the MXGP class with a 7-8 performance. Gifting faced challenges, including a mid-moto tangle with Jett Lawrence that temporarily set him back. Known for his tenacity as a privateer, Gifting’s successful MXoN run positions him as a potential candidate for a factory ride, with possible AMA Pro Motocross Championship appearances anticipated in 2026.
In a disheartening turn for Team Germany, the competition began poorly with newly crowned MX2 World Champion Simon Laengenfelder suffering a broken scapula and several rib fractures in a first-turn crash. His teammate Ken Roczen also fell early in the opening moto and replicated the mishap in moto three, finishing with scores of 18-12. Max Spies completed the team’s dismal outing with finishes of 22-30.
As the event concludes, the implications for rider development and team dynamics are significant, with each athlete’s performance shaping the landscape as they prepare for future competitions.
