450SMX Class Main Event Report: Roczen Dominates in Back-to-Back Wins

In an electrifying display at last weekend’s 450SMX Class Main Event, Ken Roczen of Progressive Insurance Cycle Gear Suzuki secured a dominant victory, marking his second consecutive win and his third of the season. The 20 Minutes + 1 Lap race commenced with Hunter Lawrence from Honda HRC Progressive grabbing the holeshot, trailed by Jorge Prado of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing and the previous winner, Ken Roczen.

Roczen quickly shifted into high gear, initially battling Lawrence for the lead before establishing a significant gap as the race progressed. Lawrence and Prado initially jockeyed for second place, with Prado briefly dropping back as Justin Cooper from Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing made his move to challenge for the position.

Midway through the race, Roczen showcased his superior pace, creating a commanding lead of over 13 seconds. Cooper ultimately secured second place, achieving his career-best result, while Lawrence rounded out the podium in third, recovering from a disappointing performance the previous week.

Eli Tomac, the series points leader, finished sixth and was not a factor in the race, leading to a shakeup in the championship standings. Lawrence has now tied for the points lead with Tomac, while Roczen has narrowed the gap, trailing by just five points as the series enters the final five races.

Roczen commented on his performance, stating, “It felt great to have such a strong run. I’m looking forward to continuing this momentum.” The upcoming races promise to intensify the championship battle as top riders vie for supremacy.
