Anaheim 2 Supercross Highlights: Eli Tomac Secures Podium in Challenging Conditions

Anaheim, CA – Eli Tomac continued his strong performance in the 2023 Supercross season with a podium finish at Anaheim 2, marking his third consecutive event with top results: two wins and a third-place finish.

The track presented unique challenges, with Tomac noting that while certain sections allowed for overtaking—particularly a 90-degree turn before the whoops—overall, it remained difficult to pass due to its one-lined nature. “You have to either wait for a mistake or make something happen,” he commented on the race’s fast-paced dynamics.

A pivotal moment for Tomac occurred when Hunter Lawrence overtook him, shifting the race’s momentum and forcing Tomac to fend off attacks from Cooper Webb. Reflecting on this, Tomac expressed a desire to revert that moment, acknowledging the impact it had on his standings.

Despite the demands of the track, which Tomac described as chaotic during the heat race, he felt proud of his team’s performance. “If you told me at the beginning of the series I would go one, one, three, that’s an awesome start,” he stated, underscoring the significance of consistency early in the championship.

Tomac also elaborated on the track conditions, which featured more traction and moisture compared to Anaheim 1, leading to a chaotic heat race. “The long rhythm lane was like an East Coast race… the toughest track was that heat race without all those ruts,” he reported, highlighting how the adjustments made for the main event benefited the riders.

In his reflections on transitioning to a new team and bike, Tomac emphasized the extensive preparation involved: “It didn’t come just out of thin air. It’s been a great start for us,” he concluded, indicating optimism for the remainder of the season.

As the championship progresses, Tomac’s consistent results position him as a formidable contender, setting the stage for an exciting series ahead.
