Triumph Factory Racing Embraces 450SX Challenge with Smith and Forkner

Triumph Factory Racing is set to debut in the 450 class of the AMA Supercross series, with Jordon Smith and Austin Forkner confirmed as its riders for the upcoming season. The first race of the 2026 season is scheduled for January 10 at Angel Stadium, Anaheim, California.

Rider Updates and Season Plans

Jordon Smith, who enjoyed a successful 2025 season culminating in Triumph’s first 250SX Main Event victory, is currently recovering from shoulder surgery. The injury, sustained during the final SMX round, has sidelined him, but he aims to return at round seven in Arlington, Texas. “It’s super disappointing not to be out there from the start of the season,” Smith stated, emphasizing his eagerness to work with the team on the TF 450-X.

Austin Forkner, transitioning to the 450SX division, has been honing his skills on the TF 450-X and will compete in the opening rounds. Forkner noted, “I’m excited to see where I stack up in the 450 class” and views this opportunity as a potential warm-up before shifting back to 250SX East.

Team Composition and Future Prospects

Mikkel Haarup will join Smith and Forkner, contesting the Pro Motocross campaign later in 2026. Despite missing two rounds last season, Haarup finished sixth in the 250 class standings and will focus on the TF 450-X ahead of his MXGP return in 2027.

Additionally, Jalek Swoll returns from injury to compete in the 250SX East division, looking to build on Triumph’s previous success with a podium finish in Pro Motocross.

Insights from Triumph Leadership

Jeremy Coker, General Manager of Triumph Racing America, remarked on the significance of entering the 450SX class and the adjustments necessitated by Smith’s injury. He expressed optimism for Forkner, highlighting the team’s rigorous preparation for the factory bike.

Ian Kimber, Head of Global Racing Programmes at Triumph, also conveyed excitement about the TF 450-X’s debut. He reaffirmed the team’s focus on gradual progress, emphasizing a strategic approach in the competitive 450 landscape.

As Triumph prepares for this new chapter, the synergy between experienced riders and the team’s commitment to development is poised to shape its performance in the upcoming season.
