Dudney Impresses in Professional Debut at Unadilla National
In a noteworthy performance at the Unadilla National, Caden Dudney, riding for Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing, showcased his potential in his professional debut following a lengthy recovery from consecutive arm injuries. The 16-year-old product of the motocross pipeline entered the race with momentum, having secured victory in the first moto at the Ironman Raceway SMX Next – Motocross Scouting Moto Combine just a week prior.
Dudney began the day with a solid qualification performance, finishing 15th overall. His first moto left him with a respectable seventh-place finish, but a crash in the second moto affected his chances for a top-ten overall result, ultimately landing him in 11th place with finishes of 7th and 13th.
After the race, Dudney reflected on his experience: “I had a decent start in the first moto and made a few mistakes. In the second moto, I improved my start position to P3 but fell back some before crashing again. It was frustrating, but there’s a lot to learn, and I’m happy overall.”
Despite not making any major bike adjustments, Dudney emphasized the importance of adapting to the track: “It was a good track; I loved it. It felt like Freestone but faster, and I always perform well there.”
When asked about pre-race nerves, Dudney maintained composure, asserting, “I was still pretty calm and just excited to be here. It’s all about racing my dirt bike, having fun, and learning as I go.”
Dudney’s performance at Unadilla sets a promising precedent as he continues his transition into the professional ranks of motocross.
