Championship Rivalry Heats Up as Webb and Sexton Clash in Title Fight

As the Supercross season approaches its climax, the rivalry between Chase Sexton and Cooper Webb intensifies, with just nine points separating the two in the championship standings. Through sixteen rounds, they have collectively secured eleven wins, showcasing their dominance in the series.

Webb acknowledged the competitive spirit between them, stating, “It’s just a championship rivalry, right? It’s good to have. We talk about it all the time. We are not friends by any means, but we have raced each other with a lot of respect.” He emphasized the emotional stakes involved, adding, “When you get two guys at the top going head-to-head, I think there should be a rivalry built up. It’s racing. It’s not sunshine and rainbows all the time.”

Sexton mirrored these sentiments, reflecting on their shared history: “I have a lot of respect for Coop. I grew up riding Yamahas, so we always parked together at Loretta’s. It’s cool to battle him… but when you’re going for a championship, you have to be rivals.”

Despite the competitive tension, both riders have committed to maintaining respect on the track. Sexton noted that while emotions are high, he prefers not to engage in overly aggressive tactics. This implies that strategies reminiscent of Eli Tomac’s infamous “bunching” moves in 2017 are unlikely as the duo heads into the next race in Salt Lake City.

With the championship on the line, the upcoming event promises to be a gripping showcase of skill and strategy as both riders vie for supremacy in a steadily escalating rivalry.
