Motorsports Report: Riders Adjust Strategies Ahead of SMX Series
As competitors gear up for the SMX Series, key figures within the motocross community are reflecting on recent performance adjustments aimed at optimizing results. Notably, a prominent rider, who requested anonymity, emphasized the necessity of reverting to previous setups after trialing less effective configurations.
"I watched my teammate Tom Vialle on TV, and I thought, ‘We need to go back to our old gear; it’s not working,’" he stated, commenting on the noticeable improvement in Vialle’s performance after returning to a familiar setup from their championship year. "The first moto last week was probably his best ride of the year."
The rider also addressed the strategic implications of SMX points in the upcoming races. "The introduction of SMX appears to have been a clever move by MX Sports to incentivize participants, especially those like me who might have otherwise opted out," he explained. The outdoor series has shown resilience since SMX’s inception, indicating an effective engagement strategy.
When comparing current performance to his earlier return in 2023, he acknowledged that physical rehabilitation from a concussion has influenced his progression. "I underestimated my comeback last time. Now, I have lower expectations but am focusing on getting strong starts," he noted, citing the importance of front positioning to gain a competitive edge.
While mindful of the challenges ahead, the rider remains optimistic about regaining full competitive form. "It’s a gradual process, but if I can secure a strong start, I believe I’ll adapt quickly," he concluded.
As the season unfolds, all eyes will be on how these adjustments will play into the overall standings of the SMX Series, echoing the competitive spirit of this revitalized motorsports arena.
