Qualifying Race Report: Coenen Dominates as Lata Secures Pole Position
In an exciting Qualifying Race at the latest MX2 event, Sacha Coenen claimed his first career victory, finishing nearly seven seconds ahead of the competition. The Belgian’s strong performance came after Valerio Lata of Honda HRC earned pole position earlier in the day, edging reigning champion Kay de Wolf by almost half a second.
Lata’s race began with a solid start, securing third early on after a rapid holeshot by Coenen and a brief tussle with De Wolf. An intense battle unfolded behind the leaders, featuring title contenders Andrea Adamo, Liam Everts, and Camden McLellan, alongside Mathis Valin and Thibault Benistant.
Coenen quickly established himself at the front, while Everts advanced to fourth after passing Lata on lap nine. A critical moment occurred when Adamo, while attempting to overtake Längenfelder, lost control and crashed, falling to tenth place by race end. This misstep highlighted the unpredictability of the 2025 MX2 class.
Längenfelder managed to pass Lata and secured sixth, fighting unsuccessfully for a higher position against Everts. With De Wolf now just 11 points behind Längenfelder in the championship standings, Adamo trails by 31 points.
Coenen expressed satisfaction with his performance: “I felt really good on the track this afternoon. I managed to make a gap and feel great. I’m happy and looking forward to tomorrow.”
The unpredictable weather conditions raise questions for the upcoming GP Sunday, where championship battles in both classes may experience further shifts. Fans and competitors alike are eager for the next chapter of this exhilarating championship battle.
