Cooper Webb’s Injury Update Following Challenging Weekend at RedBud National
NICEVILLE, MI – Cooper Webb, the reigning 450SX Monster Energy AMA Supercross Champion, faced significant adversity at the RedBud National this past weekend. After twisting his knee in the second qualifying session, Webb’s race took a turn for the worse when he crashed early in moto one, resulting in bent handlebars and a dead-last position. Despite a strong recovery drive to tenth place, Webb ran out of fuel on the final lap, ultimately finishing just shy of his usual performance level.
In moto two, Webb improved to an eighth-place finish—reflective of his recent summer outings. In a post-race statement, Webb expressed his discontent: “Overall, it was a very rough day physically and mentally, but my riding was good. I’m going to get my knee checked out on Monday to make sure that we are all good.”
Following his assessment, Yamaha confirmed that Webb will undergo a minor procedure to clean his knee. Consequently, he will miss the remainder of the Pro Motocross series, turning his focus towards the SuperMotocross World Championship Playoff round in September.
Currently, Webb leads the 450SMX qualifying standings with 516 points, holding a 14-point advantage over teammate Justin Cooper (502 points). However, he anticipates a shift in standings as he prepares for his return.
In his words, “I’m extremely bummed that I’ll be missing the upcoming rounds of Pro Motocross. I had a personal goal to make all 31 rounds this season and I’m disappointed to surrender the SMX championship lead this way. On the positive side, it’s a quick fix and recovery. I’ll get a small procedure done on Monday and should be back on the bike in around a month.”
Webb’s performance and resilience remain in question as the series progresses without him, with the implications for the championship standings yet to unfold.
Current 450SMX Standings:
- Cooper Webb – 516 points
- Justin Cooper – 502 points
