Dakar Rally Stage 8 Results: Brabec Rises Amidst Challenge

Wadi Ad-Dawasir, Saudi Arabia – The Dakar Rally’s Stage 8 loop around Wadi Ad-Dawasir proved challenging for competitors, but American rider Ricky Brabec of Monster Energy/Honda HRC Rally demonstrated resilience. Despite battling high winds and poor visibility, Brabec secured a third-place finish, solidifying his overall standing in the RallyGP class, where he now sits in third place.

Brabec’s performance, characterized by clean riding and no navigational errors, keeps him within striking distance of the leaders. He trails the top position by just over five minutes (05:02), allowing for potential recovery in the remaining stages. “I felt great today… made no mistakes,” noted Brabec. He described the windy conditions that rendered visibility poor and highlighted the course’s mix of terrain, offering both sand dunes and rocks.

Following Brabec, Skyler Howes also performed well, finishing sixth on the stage. Howes currently holds fifth place overall, positioned just under five minutes ahead of his nearest competitor, Jose “Nacho” Cornejo from Hero Motosports.

In Rally2, rookie Preston Campbell continues to impress, placing fourth on Stage 8 and maintaining his lead over KTM veteran racer Toni Mulec by a notable margin of 9 minutes and 36 seconds.

As the race progresses into its later stages, the competition remains fierce, with Brabec, Howes, and Campbell positioned to make gains in the upcoming days. The Dakar Rally will continue to test these athletes’ skills and endurance as they navigate the demanding Saudi terrain.
