MX2 World Championship Finale Report

Woolongong, Australia – The 2025 MX2 World Championship concluded dramatically with Simon Längenfelder clinching the title amidst challenging weather conditions. The race was hindered by rain and ultimately halted due to safety concerns from lightning.

Längenfelder’s ascension to the top came after Kay de Wolf experienced mechanical failures, struggling through pivotal sections of the track. The incident allowed Lata, Elzinga, and Reisulis to surpass him before he managed to cross the finish line. Despite the last-minute confusion regarding the standings, Längenfelder was cheered on as he secured a long-awaited championship for Germany, the first since Ken Roczen in 2011.

Race Results:

  1. Coenen
  2. Lata – claimed his first podium of the season
  3. Längenfelder – finished third, securing enough points for the championship
  4. Elzinga – achieved a season-best fifth
  5. Reisulis

De Wolf’s misfortunes led him to finish in fifth overall, which was not enough to clinch the championship despite significant progress since Matterley Basin. Längenfelder’s emotions were palpable as he noted, “Honestly, it’s been a tough season, but I gave everything I had.”

Kay de Wolf reflected on his journey, stating, “I gave it everything… I’m proud of myself,” while Andrea Adamo expressed a mix of satisfaction and disappointment: “In the end, the only thing that counts is winning.”

As the MXGP season closes, attention turns to the upcoming Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations in Indiana, set to be a thrilling conclusion to the 2025 motocross calendar. Längenfelder will carry the weight of expectations as he prepares for the new season, while other competitors will look to build on their experiences in a sport filled with uncertainties and fierce competition.
