As the Supercross season hits its midpoint, Honda HRC rider Jo Shimoda emphasizes the urgency for victories following a challenging performance. In the previous round, Shimoda appeared poised for a fourth-place finish until an unexpected crash by Coty Schock derailed his position, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the series.

“My plan was to…we’re five rounds in now, and I think this is the halfway point for the East Coast, so I need to step it up,” Shimoda stated. “I need to go for the wins now. We were getting better, and today we went backwards. Honestly, I just need to do better.”

Despite recent bike tests aimed at improving performance, Shimoda struggled to find comfort on a demanding track characterized by deep whoops. “The track was pretty jumpy today and had massive whoops, really cupped out. I think I need to get better in those, making better decisions. The tool’s there, but I’m not using it correctly, so it’s on me.”

Looking ahead, the upcoming St. Louis SX promises a critical opportunity for Shimoda and his competitors. Both Shimoda and Hammaker recognize the potential impact of this showdown, recalling previous instances where championship dynamics shifted dramatically due to on-track incidents.

“Great opportunity next weekend, another East/West,” Hammaker remarked. “The goal would be to win that and put West finishers between me and Cole. It’s a good opportunity to gain more points, but you can lose them as well, so just need to execute.”

Shimoda echoed Hammaker’s sentiments, reinforcing the significance of the next event: “I think the showdown is the most opportunity for the situation I’m in right now. We really have to lock in and we have to deliver. I gotta step it up and perform better.”

As the season progresses, all eyes will be on the St. Louis SX to see if Shimoda can overcome his recent setbacks and seize the critical opportunity to climb the standings.
