Honda Motor Co. Reaches 400 Million Units, Expands Electric Lineup
April 2023 – Honda Motor Co. continues its impressive trajectory in the motorcycle industry, having recently achieved a cumulative global production milestone of 400 million units by 2019. With a robust history in the U.S. market, Honda has manufactured over 30 motorcycle models domestically, including high-volume favorites like the Shadow and Gold Wing.
Since the launch of the GL1100 Gold Wing in April 1980 at its Ohio plant, Honda has steadily expanded production capabilities. The company has transitioned to include a variety of models, from commuter bikes to larger touring machines, with an annual production capacity surpassing 20 million units across 23 countries and 37 production facilities.
Despite a temporary production decline due to COVID-19 in 2020, demand has rebounded globally. Honda is on track for a significant shift toward electrification, marking 2024 as a pivotal year for its electric two-wheeler offerings. This strategic push aligns with the company’s ongoing commitment to innovation and sustainability in the mobility sector.
Honda maintains a strong presence with over 30,000 dealerships worldwide, ensuring a comprehensive delivery network for its diverse product lineup, which now includes internal combustion engine (ICE) models and burgeoning electric vehicles in select markets.
