Yamaha Europe Announces Jago Geerts’ Departure Following Successful Eight-Year Tenure

Yamaha Motor Europe has confirmed the departure of Jago Geerts, concluding an accomplished eight-year partnership with the Belgian motocross rider following the 2025 FIM Motocross World Championship.

Geerts launched his professional career with the Kemea Yamaha team in 2018, where he earned ‘Rookie of the Year’ honors after finishing eighth overall in the MX2 category. By 2019, he had established himself as a formidable competitor, securing seven podium finishes and winning three races, culminating in a bronze medal at the MX2 World Championship.

From 2020 to 2023, Geerts consistently contended for the MX2 world title aboard the Factory YZ250FM. He celebrated an impressive 45 race victories and 55 overall podiums during this period, earning four silver medals in the championship standings. After reaching the MX2 age limit in 2023, Geerts advanced to the prestigious MXGP class.

His debut season in MXGP in 2024 was marred by a severe elbow injury obtained at the season opener. However, Geerts returned to action in 2025, completing a full season aboard the 450cc bike. His season highlights included winning his first MXGP Qualifying Race at the MXGP of Spain and achieving a top overall finish of sixth at the MXGP of Latvia.

Over his tenure with Yamaha, Geerts accumulated an impressive record: 105 top-three finishes, 24 Grand Prix victories, and five MX2 championship medals, underscoring his exceptional talent and resilience in the sport.
