Report on Round 9 of the 2026 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship: Indianapolis Insights
Indianapolis, IN – Round 9 of the 2026 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship takes center stage in Indianapolis for the second Triple Crown event of the season. With the weather unseasonably warm, reaching into the 60s and 70s, the conditions are primed for an exhilarating competition.
Track Layout and Technical Considerations
The start of the race spans nearly the entire length of Lucas Oil Stadium, presenting a formidable challenge as riders navigate a high-speed right-hander. The extended start allows riders in outside gates to gain an advantage through distance rather than early proximity, enabling strategic maneuvers that could alter race dynamics.
The first rhythm section presents diversifying options based on the construction of the initial jump. A properly constructed jump could allow for a 3-3-3-1 pattern, while a smaller jump may force a 2-3-3-2 sequence. Riders must adapt accordingly, as first-corner execution could significantly influence race outcomes.
Following the rhythm section, competitors will encounter a netted 180-degree turn, leading into a triple-onto-tabletop followed by a traditional supercross triple. Notably, 250cc riders may face limitations, often relegated to a double-tabletop-single approach that could cost precious speed.
The layout also includes a challenging whoops section, notorious for rutting and variation. Last year, Cole Davies excelled by blitzing through this section while his competitors struggled. This year, riders like Eli Tomac and Ken Roczen are expected to adopt a blitzing style, whereas Cooper Webb may opt for the more controlled jumping technique.
Looking Ahead
As the riders prepare for what promises to be a competitive event, strategic starts and skillful navigation of the rhythm and whoops sections will be critical. All eyes will be on how different riders adapt to the track’s evolving conditions as the championship race heats up.
