Ward’s Legacy at the MXoN: A Testament to Dominance
Jeff Ward, celebrated as “Captain America,” holds an unparalleled record in the history of the Motocross of Nations (MXoN), marking him as the most accomplished racer in USA Motocross Team history. Over his career between 1983 and 1990, Ward made seven appearances at the MXoN and achieved a flawless record, finishing with seven victories—a benchmark that remains intact after 35 years since his last event.
“Jeff Ward represents everything the Motocross of Nations stands for — national pride, world-class talent, and a relentless drive to win,” stated Tim Cotter, Event Director for the 2025 MXoN. This year, Ward will serve as Grand Marshal, a fitting role for the winningest American in the event’s history.
Ward’s winning versatility is also notable; he secured victories across multiple displacement classes, including five wins on the 500cc Kawasaki KX500, one on the 250cc Kawasaki KX250, and one on the 125cc Kawasaki KX125. His contributions were integral to the USA’s dominance in the MXoN, which has seen the team amass a record 23 Chamberlain Trophy victories since its inception. Ward’s achievements were pivotal during a dynamic era, with triumphs in six different host nations, including the inaugural MXoN held in the USA at Unadilla MX in 1987.
