Justin Cooper Takes First 450SX Win, Teams Up With Webb in Thrilling Showdown
In a competitive night at the Indianapolis Supercross, Justin Cooper of Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing achieved a significant milestone with his first career 450SX win. Competing in the second race of the Triple Crown format, Cooper’s results of 5-1-5 secured him 11 total points. However, he ultimately placed fourth overall, narrowly missing the podium against teammate Cooper Webb, who finished with 4-3-4 in the final race.
Both riders were in contention for third place during the event’s concluding race. With equal points, Webb’s superior finish in the final moto clinched the podium position. Despite the close outcome, Cooper expressed satisfaction with his performance.
“I felt really good as soon as I hit the track,” Cooper reflected. “I got out front early. Eli (Tomac) got around me, and I was able to pass him back, which was a really cool way to win. Overall, it was an awesome day. I got my first win, and nothing but positive vibes from that.”
Rich Simmons, Team Manager for Yamaha’s 450 division, commented on the evening’s performance. “It wasn’t the result we wanted in the first race, but it was a good rebound for both riders in the second one. Justin’s victory was a highlight, though they faced challenges in the final moto due to poor starts.”
As the series progresses, Cooper’s victory marks a potential turning point, indicating both riders are finding their competitive edge as the season unfolds.
