Cooper Steps in for Injured Deegan at Motocross of Nations

Ironman, IN – In a significant change for Team USA ahead of the Motocross of Nations (MXoN), Justin Cooper has been named to replace Haiden Deegan, who is still recovering from injury. Cooper’s selection comes after Deegan’s recent assessment determined he could not compete at a championship level post-surgery.

Wil Hahn, Team Manager for the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing 250 Team, emphasized the team’s pride in representing the U.S. on home soil and acknowledged Deegan’s commitment to recovery. “Justin has been working hard, and we all thank him for changing his plans to be ready on short notice,” Hahn stated.

Cooper expressed enthusiasm for his unexpected opportunity: “I’m really excited to get the call… I feel really good and was able to get back up to speed quickly.” This unexpected assignment places him alongside notable riders like Eli Tomac and RJ Hampshire as they strive for national glory.

Deegan, reflecting on his decision, stated, “At this point, I have done everything in my power to race this weekend… The team has decided the best option is for me to fully recover.” He remains hopeful for future opportunities to represent the U.S. once fully fit.

In 2022, Cooper contributed to Team USA’s victory at RedBud, winning the MX2 class overall with a commendable 9-4 performance. His experience on the international stage will be a valuable asset as the team prepares for the challenge ahead.
