MXGP Qualifying Race Report: Jett Lawrence Dominates

In the highly-anticipated MXGP qualifying race, Jett Lawrence showcased his dominance by securing the holeshot, leading from the outset. Ken Roczen of Germany followed closely in second, maintaining significant pressure during the early stages. In stark contrast, Eli Tomac from the USA faced a challenging start, initially placing outside the top 20, while Belgium’s Lucas Coenen went down in the first turn.

Tim Gajser from Slovenia briefly held third, but the contest for the position intensified as the recently crowned World Champion, Romain Febvre, and Spain’s Ruben Fernandez engaged in a fierce battle. Fernandez momentarily claimed third, but Febvre quickly retaliated, with the duo finishing the race less than two seconds apart.

Despite a sluggish start, Tomac made a commendable recovery, advancing from 19th to 13th by the second lap. However, he struggled to overtake Antonio Cairoli, ultimately finishing 10th. He did gain a position when Glenn Coldenhoff crashed with three laps remaining.

Impressively, Lucas Coenen fought back from last place to finish sixth, a notable achievement given the 20-minute plus two-lap format of qualifying motos. His performance raises anticipation for his potential success in the main event, should he secure a better start.

Jett Lawrence closed the race with an impressive eight-second lead over Roczen, who finished with a nine-second advantage over Febvre. As the championship unfolds, Lawrence’s commanding start sets a formidable tone for the upcoming races.
