Report: Lucas Coenen Dominates at FIM Motocross Championship Round in Almonte, Spain

In a commanding display of skill and speed, Lucas Coenen of Red Bull KTM delivered an unparalleled performance at the second round of the FIM World Motocross Championship in Almonte, Spain, securing victories in all three motos and claiming the coveted red plate in the MXGP standings. Coenen’s results were a flawless 1-1-1, establishing him as a formidable contender in the championship race.

Entering the event, reigning champion Jeffrey Herlings of HRC Factory Team was anticipated to pose a significant challenge following his sweeping 1-1 performance in Argentina. However, Coenen’s mastery of the challenging sand track left even “The Bullet” trailing. His meticulous approach and exceptional speed rendered him nearly unbeatable throughout the weekend.

Coenen’s confidence was evident, having won the qualification race alongside teammate Sasha Coenen. Reflecting on the weekend’s success, he stated, “A win is never easy, but I really enjoyed it out there… I made quick passes and rode my own race.” His consistent starts placed him in advantageous positions, enabling him to execute strategic overtakes effectively.

In response to the pressures of the opening moto’s delayed start, Coenen remarked, “It took great concentration… but then I locked in and controlled the race.” Despite the tough conditions of the technical circuit, he maintained focus, prioritizing his performance over championship concerns. “I’m just focusing on myself and I’m loving it,” he added.

With this victory, Coenen’s trajectory in the 2026 season appears promising, solidifying his status as a potential world champion in the making. As the championship progresses, all eyes will be on Coenen to see if he can maintain this dominant form in the coming rounds.
