Coenen Claims Victory in Thrilling Round 13 of MXGP

In a dramatic display of skill at the latest round of the MXGP, Lucas Coenen secured his 13th career Grand Prix victory, capitalizing on a series of intense battles throughout the race. Held on July 13, this event saw Coenen not only reclaim the lead after a mid-race mishap but also significantly narrow the points gap to championship leader, Romain Febvre, from 32 to just 15.

Coenen initially fell to second place after a challenging right-hander but quickly regained his composure. He lost the lead briefly to Vlaanderen, who had taken advantage of Coenen’s error. However, the factory KTM rider surged back ahead by lap seven, expertly navigating a downhill section to retake the top spot.

Vlaanderen maintained a strong performance but couldn’t withstand Febvre’s charge, who managed to reclaim second place from him two laps later. Despite Febvre’s efforts, Coenen remained unassailable at the front, finishing ahead of Febvre and Vlaanderen.

Van Doninck, finishing fourth, had an impressive ride, showcasing his prowess on the soft surface, while Coldenhoff’s strong climb to fifth kept him in contention overall. The tightly packed standings saw Coldenhoff, Febvre, and Vlaanderen tied for second in the GP, though the tie-breaker placed Coldenhoff fourth overall due to tie-breaking procedures.

Forato’s consistent performance with two seventh-place finishes marked his best outing since August last year, cementing his spot in the top ten. Geerts and Seewer rounded out the top ten, highlighting the competitive nature of the event.

As the series heads to the Czech Republic—where Febvre has previously clinched three victories—the battle for the MXGP championship intensifies. With the season nearing its midpoint, the upcoming races promise to deliver further excitement in this closely contested championship.
