2026 AMA Supercross Round 1: Anstie’s Historic Victory at Angel Stadium
Anaheim, CA – In a remarkable opening round of the 2026 AMA Supercross Championship, Max Anstie etched his name into the record books by becoming the oldest winner of a 125/250SX main event. At 32 years, eight months, and 16 days old, Anstie surpassed the previous record held by John Dowd, who won his last 125SX race at 32 years, eight months, and 15 days.
Anstie’s performance at Angel Stadium marked a triumphant return to form, following a challenging prior season impacted by a broken leg. Reflecting on his victory, Anstie emphasized the significance of the moment. “This is definitely special… I grew up coming here dreaming of this place,” he stated, acknowledging the contributions of the Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha team. “They did a great job with the bike.”
Despite the excitement surrounding his success, Anstie remained grounded. “It’s only Round 1… I’ve got nine more to go,” he added, demonstrating a focus on consistency and championship aspirations.
Also noteworthy was the performance of 450SX winner Eli Tomac, who at 33 years old, is now the second-oldest victor in the premier class. Both riders reflect a trend in seasoned competitors thriving in a sport traditionally dominated by younger athletes.
As the series progresses, the question remains: can Anstie and Tomac continue to leverage their experience for further success in the upcoming rounds? The upcoming events will provide the answer.
