Hangtown Motocross Classic: A Legacy of Grit and Competition
Placerville, CA – The Hangtown Classic, the oldest event in American motocross, celebrates its legacy this year against the backdrop of California State Park, where it has been hosted since 1974. First held in 1969, the race has become a cornerstone of the Pro Motocross Championship, showcasing a challenging track characterized by natural terrain and minimal big air jumps, making it one of the toughest tests in the series.
Bob Messer of the Dirt Diggers North Motorcycle Club emphasized the event’s significance: “The Hangtown Motocross Classic epitomizes why this is one of the toughest racing series in all motorsports. It takes grit, determination, and peak physical conditioning to stand atop the podium here.” This enduring tradition is bolstered by partnerships with local businesses, notably Michael’s Reno Powersports, which has been a title partner since last season.
Michael’s Reno Powersports is Northern Nevada’s largest marine and powersports dealership, representing notable brands including GASGAS, Husqvarna, KTM, and Yamaha. Their commitment extends to the MRPSBR Husqvarna Racing team, featuring eight riders across the 450 and 250 classes, with Estonian racer Harri Kullas leading the charge. Kullas finished 20th in last season’s Pro Motocross 450 Class standings and 13th in the SMX Playoffs.
“Our passion for motorcycles and racing is the driving force for elevating Michael’s Reno Powersports into the premier dealership in the region,” said General Manager Maya Keller. “Our partnership with the Hangtown Motocross Classic is a tremendous asset to our growth, helping inspire our racing endeavor and providing a platform for racers to pursue their dreams.”
As the countdown to race day continues, the Hangtown Classic remains a testament to the sport’s rich history and the commitment of its community to foster the next generation of motocross talent.
