Motocross Update: Eli Tomac Remains Hungry for Victory Despite Recent Challenges
Southwick, MA – In the latest round of the motocross season at Southwick, Eli Tomac demonstrated both resilience and determination despite not claiming a victory. In the second moto, Tomac executed a strong start, swiftly overtaking Hunter Lawrence to secure third position early on, trailing only Jett Lawrence and Jorge Prado. However, Jett Lawrence pulled away to maintain a commanding lead.
Tomac later faced pressure from Hunter Lawrence, who successfully maneuvered past him. "I just thought he was doing some things a little more open than what I was, I guess," Tomac explained. "That left-hander was where he set up the pass from the outside, and I couldn’t quite stick to his wheel after that, which was frustrating."
Although Tomac finished on the podium, he expressed dissatisfaction with his performance. "I’m still getting podiums, but I expect to be closer to winning. In my mind, I still want to be getting wins, so I’m not super stoked about it," he stated.
Rich Simmons, team manager for Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing, echoed Tomac’s sentiments. "Eli getting an overall podium was good, but he wants to get back on that top step. We will keep working to get him there," Simmons commented.
At this stage in his career, Tomac has achieved virtually every accolade, which has alleviated some of the pressure to win. However, his competitive spirit remains undiminished. "I’ve lasted this long because I still wanted to try to win and continue getting better," he noted, emphasizing his relentless pursuit of excellence.
As the season progresses, Tomac remains focused on reclaiming his spot at the top of the podium, showcasing both grit and determination in the face of adversity.
