Motorsports Report: Deegan’s Dominance and 450MX Insights

Haiden Deegan extends his lead in the 250MX championship with 48 points ahead of his nearest competitor after securing six wins from eight motos. This lead marks the third-largest after eight motos in the class since 1980. Deegan, the reigning champion, has demonstrated significant improvement this season, raising questions about his potential participation on Team USA after previously declining invitations.

In the 450MX class, 38 of the available top-five spots have been claimed predominantly by Jett and Hunter Lawrence, Justin Cooper, Eli Tomac, and Aaron Plessinger. Notably, Jorge Prado and Jason Anderson are the only additional riders to finish in the top five, highlighting a substantial gap between them and the leading group.

Prado’s performance has been underwhelming, averaging just 9.75 in moto finishes, primarily impacted by a DNF at Lakewood. In contrast, Eli Tomac has averaged an impressive fifth-place starting position but struggles with inconsistent first laps, which have offset his two moto victories this season.

Overall, the series continues to tighten, with Deegan’s strength in the 250MX underlined by his consistent performance, while the 450MX sees a handful of riders vying for dominance amidst gaps in performance among the rest of the field.
