Phil Nicoletti on Eli Tomac’s Endurance and MXoN Performance

Australia, September 24, 2024 – Amidst the picturesque backdrop of Australia, Phil Nicoletti shared insights into the recent Motocross of Nations (MXoN) and the impressive performance of Eli Tomac. Despite the vibrant surf scene, Nicoletti remains engaged with key developments in the sport.

In the final moto of the MXoN, Tomac delivered a standout performance, showcasing his skills with a solid second-place finish following a robust fourth in the first moto. At 32, Tomac continues to compete against the sport’s elite, a feat that raises questions about his longevity and competitive edge.

Nicoletti characterized Tomac as “a freak of nature,” highlighting his ability to thrive under pressure, particularly in high-stakes events like MXoN. Observing Tomac during his 2022 MXoN appearance, Nicoletti noted a significant transformation in Tomac’s demeanor, indicating a newfound confidence and team-focused mentality. “He enjoys that type of pressure for Team USA more than when he goes for an AMA championship,” Nicoletti stated.

While Tomac’s peak performance may not be consistent across every race, Nicoletti asserts that he still operates at approximately 85% of his best. “The Lawrence brothers have set a remarkably high standard,” he acknowledged, yet he emphasized that Tomac’s competitive spirit remains undiminished. “Eli will fight to the death to still try and find that” competitive edge as he approaches 33.

Looking ahead, both Nicoletti and the motorsports community anticipate Tomac’s continued presence in future competitions, including the upcoming event in Ernee. “His willpower to push another year is remarkable,” Nicoletti concluded, reaffirming the veteran’s determination to maintain his status in the competitive field.
