MXGP and MX2 Update: Febvre Dominates, De Wolf Returns to Form
Spain – In a significant showdown at the Spanish Grand Prix, Kawasaki’s Romain Febvre ended Lucas Coenen’s recent win streak, securing a 1-2 finish against Coenen’s 4-1 results. Febvre’s victory bolstered his championship lead to 49 points following the injury-induced absence of Honda’s Tim Gajser, who faces a season-ending shoulder surgery. This development narrows the championship race predominantly to Febvre and Coenen, with Febvre potentially on track to achieve the longest gap between world titles in MXGP history, last winning in 2015.
In the MX2 division, Husqvarna’s Kay de Wolf reclaimed championship momentum, finishing with a 1-4 in the motos for the overall win. KTM’s Andrea Adamo followed with a 5-1 performance, while Sacha Coenen secured 6-2 results against Liam Everts’ 2-6. Simon Langenfelder’s efforts fell short, ending with eighth overall at 8-3. De Wolf now leads Langenfelder by 15 points, with Adamo a further six points behind.
The MXGP circuit will take a break this weekend, resuming next week in Érnee, France, where competitors hope for drier conditions after a season plagued by rain.
