GasGas and Justin Barcia Part Ways After Five-Year Run

GasGas has officially announced the termination of its partnership with Justin Barcia, concluding a significant five-year era in the AMA Supercross and Pro Motocross Championships. The press release credited Barcia for his pivotal role in the brand’s achievement of its first 450SX Main Event and 450MX overall victories.

Barcia joined GasGas in 2021 as part of the brand’s inaugural entry into the AMA racing scene, marking one of the most impactful launches in recent motorsports history. The move revitalized the brand under the KTM umbrella and helped establish GasGas as a contender in the highly competitive motocross landscape. However, speculation surrounds GasGas’ future in AMA racing, with reports suggesting the team may transition under the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna banner in 2026.

This past season, Barcia’s performance did not meet expectations, culminating in a 10th place finish in the combined SMX standings, a year marked by a lack of podium appearances. Despite the lackluster results, his initial impact remains significant, especially the innovative marketing tactics employed during the COVID-shortened 2021 season, where a mock “2021 A1” race was staged for promotional purposes.

“GasGas wanted to embrace the fun side of racing, and instead of curbing my style, they encouraged it,” Barcia stated, highlighting the brand’s approach to his unique racing persona.

Barcia is expected to transition to Troy Lee Designs Ducati for the upcoming season, embarking on a new chapter after a memorable tenure with GasGas.
