“Today started out a bit slow in the rocks, but once it opened up in the high speeds I felt really good… felt at home,” Howes noted after the race. He expressed optimism as he moves into Stage 3.

In the Rally2 class, Preston Campbell of Monster Energy/Honda secured his first-ever Dakar stage podium by finishing in 3rd place at 4:29:51. Campbell acknowledged the lessons learned from earlier stages and noted improvements in his riding, particularly battling through challenging dust conditions.
“Yesterday I learned a lot and today I improved. It’s all good and comfortable in the rocks,” Campbell remarked.
Additionally, Martim Ventura, Campbell’s teammate, captured Stage 2, marking Honda’s inaugural Rally2 class stage win with the CRF450RX Rally bike.
Upcoming Challenges:
Competitors will face demanding terrain in Stage 3, which includes a notable 422 km Special timed section through the scenic Alula region. Navigational roadbooks will be crucial as racers navigate sandy tracks and rocky formations, marking a pivotal point in the rally.
