2025 Motocross Racing Preview: Key Competitors and Expectations
As the 2025 Motocross season approaches, several standout riders and classes are generating significant anticipation. This year’s event is set to feature a mix of veterans and rising stars across various age divisions.
In the Vet (30+) class, Jeff Loop (Yamaha) and Broc Peterson (KTM) are poised to dominate. The field also includes formidable contenders such as Brandon Haass, Delnicki, Jake Weimer (Honda), Chris Canning (Husqvarna), Scott Champion (Yamaha), and Heath Harrison (Husqvarna). Notably absent is Chad Reed, who withdrew after his son Tate sustained a collarbone injury.
The Senior (40+) division will see competitors like Shane Kelleher (Honda), Racer X’s Kris Keefer (Triumph), Tim Weigand (KTM), and Robert Fitch (Yamaha). Mike Brown is ruled out for this season due to injuries sustained earlier this summer. John Boruff (Yamaha), last year’s Senior (45+) champion, returns with the #1 plate, aiming to defend his title.
Rounding out the veteran fields, the Masters (50+) class features Barry Carsten (Suzuki), Gregory Pamart (Kawasaki), Kevin Cozadd (Yamaha), and Early May (Kawasaki) as top competitors.
The 85cc divisions are highly competitive, led by Jaydin Smart (Yamaha) and Sawyer Gieck (KTM). Other notable riders include Carter Gray (GasGas), Nolan Cobb (KTM), and Chase Brennan (Suzuki). Joey Vicari (KTM) will miss the event due to a leg injury incurred during practice. Kannon Zabojnik (Cobra), fresh from a moto win at the FIM Junior World Motocross Championship, is a favorite as he transitions to the 85cc class. Teammate Levi Geis (Cobra) is another rider to watch, alongside Gavin Audet (KTM) and female contender Raycin Kyler (Cobra).
The Mini Sr. divisions promise excitement as well. Mini Sr. 1 (12-14) competitors include Cooper Johnson (Yamaha), Easton Graves (Husqvarna), and Maddox Temmerman (Husqvarna), among others. Mini Sr. 2 (13-15) will see a similar lineup enhanced by the addition of Hannah Jamison.
As the event unfolds, these riders will be critical to watch as they compete for supremacy in their respective classes.
