Drew Adams Shows Promise Despite Challenges in Arlington Supercross
ARLINGTON, TX – In an intense showing at the Arlington Supercross, Drew Adams displayed resilience and potential despite facing early setbacks. Finishing strong in the main event, Adams acknowledged that being passed late by championship contender Cole Davies was disheartening but reflective of a solid performance overall.
“I was very disappointed in myself after the heat race,” Adams admitted. “It was kind of a confidence killer. But after speaking with Mitch, I was able to regroup for the main. The start is everything, and I didn’t have that.”
Starting from the inside, Adams struggled off the line but emerged in seventh position. “I had a horrible jump but managed to make it work,” he said. Reflecting on the challenging track, he noted, “This was probably the roughest supercross track I’ve ever raced on. The whoops were particularly brutal, akin to the chewed-up course at Daytona 2024.”
Despite his struggles in the closing minutes of the race, Adams recorded competitive lap times, stating he was “the second fastest guy on the track during the middle of the moto.” He attributed the fatigue to overexertion, saying, “I was sprinting too much when there was still ten minutes on the clock.”
At just his fourth supercross event, Adams is still acclimating to the full-length races, having previously competed in shorter SX Futures events. He emphasized the importance of growth, aiming to refine his performance as the season progresses: “I want to be a guy that’s dangerous when I’m up there.”
In terms of bike setup, Adams felt well-prepared, noting adjustments made specifically for the challenging whoops section. He’s used the offseason for extensive testing, overcoming a scapula injury sustained last Thanksgiving, which sidelined him for several weeks.
With a clear focus on improvement, Adams remains determined to make a mark in the championship series, aligning with his team’s winning mentality. “That’s my goal towards the end of the season,” he asserted, signaling his ambition to contend for top honors as the season unfolds.
