SMX Playoffs 1 Cut Short Due to Severe Weather

The SMX Playoffs 1 at zMAX Dragway was abruptly halted due to severe weather conditions. The event, which included the highly anticipated 450SMX moto, faced interruptions when a sudden gust of wind exacerbated dust levels, shortly before the onset of rain and lightning.

As the initial moto concluded, light rain began to fall, signaling a shift in conditions. By 4:15 p.m. local time, officials announced a weather delay in response to nearby lightning strikes. Despite hopes for a resumption, the situation worsened; lightning continued to be a concern, repeatedly resetting the event’s countdown clock.

The decision to end the day’s activities ahead of the scheduled SMX Next World All-Stars main event highlights the ongoing challenges posed by unpredictable weather in outdoor motorsports. As safety remains the priority, the series will look to regroup for future events under more favorable conditions.
