Return of the World Speedway Invitational: A Decade in the Making
The World Speedway Invitational is set to make its long-awaited return this Saturday, reviving a beloved event that last took place in 2013. Initially launched in 2012, the Invitational garnered significant acclaim, drawing sell-out crowds of 6,000 attendees each night.
Reviving a Legacy
According to event promoter and organizer, [Name], the revival stems from a commitment to showcase top-tier speedway talent to American audiences. “It’s taken years to get to this point, focusing on the growth of the sport in the U.S.,” he stated. “We aim to bring the event back to the high standard we set in 2012 and 2013, featuring six European Grand Prix riders.”
Rider Lineup and Format
The event will follow a traditional Grand Prix format, featuring 20 heats, two semi-final races, and a main event. Highlights of the roster include 2021 World Speedway Champion Artem Laguta, alongside Polish star Maciej Janowski and Latvian rider Andzejs Lebedevs. British Gold Medalist Tom Brennan and emerging talent Will Cairns will also compete.
From the American contingent, reigning AMA National Speedway Champion Broc Nicol and U.S. Speedway Champion Max Rumi will take center stage, supplemented by seasoned racers such as Slater Lightcap, Billy Janniro, a record 11-time AMA National Champion, and two-time National Champion Aaron Fox, who was added to the lineup shortly before the event.
As the motorsport community eagerly anticipates this matchup of international and home-grown talent, the World Speedway Invitational aims to bridge gaps of experience and skill between America’s and Europe’s elite racers.
