Kyle Chisholm’s Final Supercross Season: Key Insights Ahead of the SMX Playoffs
Kyle Chisholm, a veteran of the Supercross and motocross scene, officially enters the final chapter of his racing career as he retires after the 2025 season. Celebrating his 20th year as a professional racer, Chisholm solidified his status as a fan favorite by claiming a record 13th Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) victory at the Seattle Supercross this season.
With a post-season seeding of 27th, Chisholm faces the challenge of qualifying for the 22-rider starting gate at each round of the SMX World Championship. His experience in high-stakes LCQs is expected to serve him well as he navigates the intense competition ahead.
“I’m glad to be back with the team after a couple months off after Supercross,” Chisholm remarked. “The SMX races are always fun events. I’m not too happy to have to go through the LCQs, but with my experience, I feel we will get good results.”
Larry Brooks, Team Manager for Twisted Tea/H.E.P. Motorsports/Suzuki, expressed confidence in the team’s preparation for the SMX Playoffs, stating, “Three rounds to decide the SMX Champion. The team is in a good spot, and our racers are coming in as prepared as possible.”
The SMX World Championship, initiated in 2023, features a unique format where riders’ points from both the motocross and Supercross seasons are reset. The top 20 riders automatically qualify, while those ranked 21-30 and any season winners not qualified by points will enter the LCQ for the remaining spots.
Chris Wheeler, Motorsports Manager for Suzuki Motor USA, emphasized the competitive nature of the upcoming series: “The SMX World Championship post-season brings a true winner-take-all atmosphere. We’re excited to line up and fight for it in this post-season showdown.”
The SMX Playoffs span three events:
- Playoff 1: zMAX Dragway, Charlotte, N.C. (September 6) – Standard point payout.
- Playoff 2: The Dome, St. Louis, Mo. (September 13) – Double points.
- Final: Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Las Vegas, NV (September 20) – Triple points.
