2025 SuperMotocross Playoffs: Round One Results and Insights

Concord, NC – The inaugural round of the 2025 SuperMotocross Playoffs unfolded on Saturday under challenging conditions, drastically influenced by heavy rain preceding the event. The track, crafted with a hybrid layout, became a battleground for riders, resulting in numerous incidents and the cancellation of second motos due to lightning.

Former professional racer and NBC analyst Jason Thomas provided crucial insights on the track’s performance. “The rain significantly altered the track’s characteristics,” he stated. “The addition of softer dirt aimed at enhancing texture became problematic when saturated, creating a spongy, rut-filled course. What typically would be manageable jumps turned into perilous challenges.”

The hybrid configuration posed further complications for riders in terms of setup. Despite the lengthy rhythm lane favoring a supercross configuration, many opted for a supercross setup due to its suitability for the substantial jumps. However, as the track deteriorated, this choice led to complications. “Supercross setups struggle to absorb bumps effectively, making for a rough and exhausting ride, especially in the motocross sections,” Thomas noted.

Key Results

  • First motos saw top contenders face significant obstacles, with frequent mistakes impacting race outcomes.
  • Second motos were ultimately scrapped due to severe weather conditions, calling into question the resilience of both riders and teams.

As the playoffs progress, the balance between setup strategy and environmental factors will remain critical. The series now heads into subsequent rounds with heightened anticipation and the promise of further unpredictable challenges.
