Tim Gajser, a prominent figure in motocross, has announced his retirement from competitive racing, concluding an illustrious career with Honda HRC. Over his tenure, Gajser amassed an impressive record, including four MXGP World Championships and one MX2 World Championship.
Gajser’s rise began with his entry into the MXGP class in 2016, where he swiftly proved his mettle by winning the opening round in Qatar. He secured his second title that same year, further establishing himself through a dominant streak of seven moto wins out of eight. His resilience showed through injuries in 2017 and a challenging 2018 season, but he rebounded with a remarkable comeback in the 2019 MXGP of Trentino, ending a 19-month podium drought. This revival led to seven consecutive GP wins and his third championship, celebrated in Imola, Italy.
The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the 2020 season did little to hinder his performance, as Gajser won his fourth championship by over 100 points, concluding with multiple victories in Trentino. In a tightly contested 2021 season, he finished just 20 points shy of another title. However, 2022 saw him regain dominance with ten GP victories, leading to his fifth championship.
After a substantial injury in pre-season 2023, Gajser managed to claim two GP wins towards the end of the year, setting the stage for a competitive 2024 season where he narrowly missed a title by just 10 points. The 2025 season began with promise; however, a misfortune in Switzerland derailed his quest for a sixth championship. His final GP victory for Honda came at the Pietramurata venue, surrounded by devoted fans.
Gajser departs as Honda’s winningest rider, marked by:
- 4x MXGP World Championships
- 1x MX2 World Championship
- 47x MXGP Overall Wins
- 116 Race Wins
- 125 Podiums
Marcus Pereira de Freitas, HRC General Manager, stated, “Tim’s journey from talented rookie to five-time world champion has been extraordinary. He faced adversity but continually emerged stronger. His departure will be felt deeply, but we are excited for his future endeavors.”
Honda HRC extends heartfelt gratitude to Gajser for his contributions and legacy within the motorsport community.
