In the heat races, Chase Lawrence faced off against Cooper Webb, emphasizing a tactical approach to their duel. “I’m not trying to punt anyone in a heat race and give them extra motivation for the main,” Lawrence stated, indicating a focus on maintaining composure while positioning himself for the final. He expressed satisfaction with his performance in qualifying, noting the quality of the starting gates despite variations in track conditions.
Ken Roczen offered insight into his mental strategy for the season, stating, “I keep a pretty steady flow…I’ve just taught myself to do that.” The two-time champion credited his family life with helping him manage racing pressures, allowing him to mentally reset and prepare for each race. “I feel like I’ve kind of found a recipe that floats my boat,” he concluded, indicating a balanced approach as the season progresses.
Eli Tomac faced a tougher challenge, navigating through the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) for the first time in years. “It was a stressful evening.. glad to make it through,” he remarked, highlighting the intensity of the evening. In the main event, Tomac secured a solid start but conceded, “The riding was not there at all,” ultimately placing third. He acknowledged the dominance of the leaders, expressing confidence in his performance but recognizing that he was outpaced by the top two competitors.
