Webb Reflects on Challenging Season and Perseverance
Salt Lake City, UT – Cooper Webb’s journey through the 2023 motocross season has been a testament to resilience and determination, culminating in a competitive finish against formidable rival Chase Sexton. As the season unfolded, Webb acknowledged the increasing pressure and the mental fortitude required to excel.
“You gotta stay in it, you gotta stay present,” said Webb, reflecting on the relentless demands of the championship. “Especially against Chase, it was tough. I had a great season, but when he was on, it’s hard. You’ve got to push hard while being wise; it’s stressful.”
Webb’s performance was not just a matter of racing skill; he fought through an ongoing thumb injury sustained during an off-season crash that eventually required surgery. He revealed, “I was in pain for nine months… it just never healed.” Despite the challenges, his dedication remained unwavering.
“I went all in this year,” Webb continued. A shift in training focus and lifestyle adjustments were critical. During a candid conversation with team manager Rich Simmons, Webb was motivated to enhance his conditioning, stating, “He told me I was fat… I made it a priority.”
Webb’s commitment to the sport has been mirrored by the support from his team and training partners, emphasizing the collective effort behind individual success. “My teammates, my training partners… they push me to be the best version of myself every day,” he noted, particularly acknowledging Justin Cooper’s role in his preparation.
As the season approaches its conclusion, Webb remains focused on his goal. “It’s not fun and picture-perfect every day, but this moment makes it worth it,” he concluded, highlighting his passion for motocross amid the physical and mental challenges of the sport.
