San Diego Supercross: Cooper and Team Face Early Season Challenges
In the latest round of the 2023 Supercross season, Justin Cooper secured a sixth-place finish at the San Diego event, marking his second consecutive result in this position. However, both Cooper and his teammate faced hurdles, primarily due to subpar starts in the races.
Cooper acknowledged these challenges, stating, “It was another so-so race day. I’m just not getting the starts I need to put myself in a good position, so it’s been tough. I came from way back again in the main and got another sixth place. That’s not bad on paper, but it could be a lot better because my riding’s been pretty good.”
Team Manager Rich Simmons of Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing echoed Cooper’s sentiment, emphasizing the impact of poor starts: “We had another rough weekend. Practice was looking good for both riders, but we had bad starts, and on a track like this, you can’t get bad starts. So that haunted us, as well as a few mistakes in the heat race that put us in a bad position for the main. We just need to clean those things up and regroup for A2.”
As Cooper focuses on improving his starts to enhance his race positioning, the team prepares for the upcoming Anaheim 2 round, aiming to build on their practice performance and rectify the issues faced in San Diego.
